The PTSD CLINIC is a FREE consulting service offered to First Responders and Canadian Veterans who suffer from work-related mental health issues or who suspect they might be struggling with work-related stress.
Different from other programs in the community who offer group therapy, this is a one-on-one, face-to-face service. We offer a FREE initial 1 hour consultation that includes a brief assessment of your situation and needs. We will then offer guidance as to what you can do to initiate your recovery.
Our objective is to facilitate access to diagnosis and treatment for individuals who are at a very high risk of developing PTSD and of then hiding it. Although things are changing, mental health stigma remains high among these workers who typically only seek help after all their psychological resources have been depleted and/or when their psychological and behavioural disfunction has become conspicuous. When they seek help, they are often in crisis and it may then take a significant number of weeks before they can be connected with a mental health resource professional.
In the case of Canadian Veterans, we often provide psychological intervention to individuals who may be waiting for the processing of their paper work and their claims with VAC. If you are struggling with PTSD or other mental health issues, being on a wait list can lead to a sense of hopelessness and to the further aggravation of your functionality.
Making consultation accessible, private, free of charge, and without requiring a referral can make a great difference in facilitating early diagnosis and treatment.
