Following an assessment of your situation, personality strengths, and developmental history (which may incorporate objective psychometric measures) we will discuss with you a plan of intervention that includes frequency of visits, use of homework, and types of interventions. Dr. Hugo Stevenson’s approach is based on the following principles:
- Active technique and ongoing feedback: long gone are the times of the silent therapist… we view therapy as a collaborative dialogue between two individuals and, therefore, we will use our skills to support your engagement by maintaining you psychologically stimulated and interested in the matter at hand: you.
- Education matters: we strongly believe that education is a decisive factor in personality development and mental health recovery. As such, we will offer your psychological education on all aspects relevant to your current situation.
- Open door: we will accompany you through the whole process by being available for consultation between sessions, as needed. We encourage you to ask questions, keep notes, practice what you have learned in therapy, and keep your engagement with the therapeutic process at a pace that makes sense to you.
- Adaptive strategy: we believe that all our psychological knowledge should be put into tailoring an intervention that is the best fit for your strengths and learning styles. In a word, technique should adapt to the client and not the other way around.
